Vessels

Concept
Arising from a time when movement from one location to another was host to many memories, these 40 bowls capture artifacts of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Within these formations are rock, sticks and sand gathered from various environments, whether the shoreline or a construction site. Within a lifetime of transience, these objects contain and preserve what otherwise would be forgotten or lost. To generate these fragile bowls requires continuous, repetitive action in the sand.  With each burrowing action, a core sample of the site is made which in turn offers a space for the work to be cast.  By making these vessels,  I question what it means to excavate memory fragments of a specific place— to finally hold on to something without the fear of losing or forgetting.
