Concept: This installation reimagines memories through architectural elements, reconstructing them to evoke a new sense of space and nostalgia. Anchored by a stained wooden arch inspired by childhood photographs, the work draws from the vernacular architecture of the artist’s past, serving as a portal to reassemble fragments of personal history.
The installation incorporates prints and materials sourced from a 1700s Connecticut home undergoing renovation, including linoleum cork flooring and salvaged pink tiles. These relics, once embedded in the fabric of another era, are transformed and recontextualized, giving them renewed purpose in the present. Through this fusion of past and present, the work engages with themes of memory, preservation, and reinvention.
By piecing together architectural elements and materials, Fragments of Familiarity constructs a tactile and emotional landscape. It invites viewers to explore how fragments of the past can shape new environments, creating a shared space where nostalgia and reassembly converge to form a renewed sense of belonging.
